MEET HARRY DIRCKS, CITY LEADERSHIP INTERN

Hi, Memphis! My name is Harrison Dircks, and I am an intern for the Executive Team at City Leadership. I am currently a sophomore at Rhodes College majoring in English with a minor in Business. I am incredibly excited about working with City Leadership this summer because it is my first real opportunity to engage with the city of Memphis outside of school and learn about the functions of a nonprofit organization, especially one as unique as City Leadership. I am amazed by the commitment to investing in this city that is exemplified by each team member, and I cannot wait to help the team achieve its goals this summer!

I was born and raised in Larchmont, NY, which is about half an hour north of the city. It is truly a great town, and I am very grateful for the opportunities I was given growing up such as Model Congress, filmmaking at my local TV station, and my soccer team. At Rhodes, I have continued to take advantage of opportunities like that and have quickly filled my schedule with many incredible activities. I serve as the Vice President of the Rhodes Activities Board and the Rhodes College chapter of TISL,  and I am a member of Rhodes Singers, the Rhodes College Jazz Ensemble, and the Sigma Nu Fraternity. I genuinely enjoy working hard to foster a sense of community on campus, and I hope to continue that at City Leadership.

As someone who is still relatively new to Memphis, I am constantly finding things to be exciting about here. One of my favorite things about the city so far is definitely Crosstown Concourse. It is a fantastic place to foster community and invest in the city of Memphis, and I think it is representative of the rich, supportive culture that exists here. City Leadership is a huge part of that, so I am excited to be a part of an organization that cares so deeply about the city and does so much to maintain its vibrance.

This is my first experience working for an organization like City Leadership, so I am very excited about helping out in any way that I can. The team has been incredibly supportive thus far and clearly loves this city very much. I am very glad to be here and to be able to engage with Memphis in such a unique and fulfilling way!
