Nashayla Yancey — Alumni Coordinator

Nashayla Yancey

Nashayla joined the City Leadership team in October 2024 and is our Alumni Coordinator.

What I do for city Leadership

As the Alumni Coordinator, I work with juniors and seniors in high school who are transitioning into the Choose901: Alumni program.

The Choose901: Alumni program exists to empower the next generation of Memphians to become successful leaders and contributors to our city.

We support our partner school alumni by assisting them through their transition out of high school and providing them with access to jobs, internships, networking opportunities, resume writing, professional development, and more.

CONNECT WITH ME

How I got to Memphis…

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and I’ve been in Memphis my whole life.

A fun fact about me is that I’ve attended two of our partner schools! I went to New Hope Christian Academy for elementary school and The Collegiate School of Memphis for middle and high school. Both schools helped foster my love for Memphis, and I was able to meet amazing teachers and friends who taught me the best way to succeed.

During my junior year, I was introduced to the Choose901: Alumni Team, and they made a huge difference in my life. They were able to help me secure internships throughout college, attend networking events, and equip me with the knowledge I needed to become a professional.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as an Alumni Coordinator. I can't wait to help future alumni have the same amazing experiences I did.

Why I Choose901

I chose to stay in Memphis because I knew that I could make an impact here. I attended college at Christian Brothers University, where I was able to be a mentor for many students from all over the world.

I enjoy calling Memphis home and serving as a resident assistant, orientation guide, and peer mentor allowed me to make students feel comfortable in their new home away from home.

ALL ABOUT ME

Nashayla Yancey

Nashayla enjoys making other people happy and helping others find their passions!

I enjoy spending a lot of my time hanging out with friends and family, trying different restaurants, and finding various places around the city to walk and enjoy nature.

As a Memphian, of course, I love BBQ. My favorite spots to go to are A&R Bar-B-Que, Cozy Corner, and Tops BBQ. I love barbecue nachos and pulled pork.

My favorite thing to do is attend different city-wide events, like Memphis in May, the Delta Fair, the Beale Street Music Festival, and the Bartlett Festival. At these events, I’m able to work at my family’s food truck called “Yancey’s Smoking Good Food” where we serve the best BBQ nachos, turkey legs, funnel cakes, snow cones, ice cream, and more.
