PUBLIC SAFETY - BRYAN JORDAN

Memphis is a city of promise — but that promise is being tested by crime. Families are grieving, businesses are cautious, and confidence in public safety has been shaken. Yet, this is not the end of Memphis’s story.

Bryan Jordan, CEO of First Horizon, highlights the progress already being made through bold collaboration among law enforcement, city leadership, businesses, and the community. Today, a stronger police presence, expanded federal partnerships, targeted interventions, and smarter, data-driven strategies are delivering measurable results:

  • Overall crime is at its lowest point in six years.

  • Crime is down 34% in just two years.

  • 8,000 fewer victims citywide compared to last year alone.

  • Downtown Memphis has seen a 31% drop in crime.

  • Robbery and burglary are at 25-year lows, sexual assault at its lowest point in two decades, and larceny at its lowest in a decade.

These results are encouraging, but Jordan emphasizes that true public safety requires more than policing — it demands a full system of prevention, prosecution, correction, and rehabilitation. Progress will depend on alignment across local, state, and federal agencies, as well as active partnership with business, philanthropic, and nonprofit leaders.

The path forward is clear:

  • Invest in youth intervention and mentorship to reach young people before violence does.

  • Expand access to job training and economic opportunity in communities most affected by crime.

  • Support community policing and neighborhood partnerships that build trust and accountability.

  • And most importantly, ensure the business and philanthropic community shows up — with leadership, visibility, and sustained engagement.

At First Horizon, Jordan reaffirms the commitment to stand with civic partners to make safety non-negotiable in Memphis. With shared responsibility and focused investment, Memphis can become a city where every resident and visitor feels safe — in every neighborhood, at every hour — and where opportunity is within reach for all.
