MEET JASMINE LEAVY, CITY LEADERSHIP RESIDENT

Hi guys! My name is Jasmine Leavy and I am a resident at City Leadership. I was recently hired after graduating from Spelman College in May of 2019. So yes, I wear my badge and title “newbie” proudly! I am excited and honored to work with the team members of Choose901, Teach901, and Serve 901. We’re all about the business of attracting and retaining talent as enthusiastically stated on our website. Furthermore, as a Choose901 alumna, I can truly attest to the fact that the organization effectively supports and grooms thriving young people for career success.

I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. After graduating from the Soulsville Charter School in 2015, I went on to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. As a political science/pre-law major, I knew I wanted to work as a public servant in order to give back. I have gained a plethora of information from academic institutions as well as internships and fellowships. As a matter of fact, I was able to utilize my love for writing as an intern with Elsevier Publishing Company in Boston, MA. I was so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with talented authors and take part in the book publishing process. Additional internships include the University of Tennessee UNCF K-12 Fellows and Scholastic in New York.

Let me keep it real. After graduating from college, I had every intention of leaving Memphis to pursue a career in Los Angeles, California. But Choose901 opened my eyes up to the reality that we have an urgent need to build and strengthen metropolitan Memphis and the surrounding areas. So I came to the conclusion that I didn’t need to relocate to satisfy my passion for helping others. My community service has been deeply rooted in Memphis since adolescence.

When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, working out, bargain shopping, and laughing endlessly with friends and family. Furthermore, I’ve been told that I make a mean apple cobbler. When I’m not baking, you can most likely find me at the movie theater––you can catch me at a movie at least once a week!

Currently, I feel like a great big sponge, soaking up every bit of knowledge in my path. I know I’m young and considered a “newbie” by most standards. However, my heart and thirst for learning is real. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
