MEET WILLIAM SMITH
Hi! My name is William Smith. I am one of the new City Leadership Residents. I’m very excited to be here and to be a part of a team of changemakers that are taking accountability for the work it takes to create an identity for this city. I’m not a Choose901 Alumni; however, I am a Memphis resident and SCS grad. I live in Whitehaven and attended Whitehaven High, where we have one of the best principles in the city.
Currently, I’m an undergrad student at Union pursuing a degree in Nonprofit leadership. Growing up, I always wanted to be a professional basketball player. Due to statistics and overall lack of talent, I started finding new ways to get myself active and involved. I struggled for a minute because sports was such a huge part of my DNA, but I knew I really had a heart for leading but did not necessarily have a cause or anyone to lead. In my Junior year of high school, I decided to join my first non-profit called Bridge Builders, extensively learning a huge array of leadership skills. This organization did a great job of pulling out of me talents that I didn't know I had but also training and developing me to better those skills. Throughout those years, being a student in their program really showed me how much I truly cared about the upward trend of this city.
