How to Support Educators for Teacher Appreciation Month

The Power of Encouragement

Encouragement is one of the most powerful fuel sources in the world. It has the ability to spark action, create momentum, and overcome doubt. Its immense potential can positively impact any workplace, community, or friend group.

We have all been encouraged by someone. You can probably pause and think about a meaningful way you have been encouraged in your life: kind words through a text, social post, or even through the mail. It could be an in-the-moment acknowledgement from a co-worker or friend. Maybe it was even a more orchestrated gathering that included an award or public praise.

These moments of guidance, feedback, and inspiration not only motivate us but also fuel the best versions of ourselves to be more consistent and prevalent moving forward.

Teachers are Heroes

Teachers are truly remarkable human beings. These leaders are the conduit of our community's future. Sacrifice, dedication, and endurance are the common characteristics of those who spend thousands of hours each year investing in our children.

They deserve to be celebrated year-round, but during Teacher Appreciation Month, they become a high point in the annual calendar for us to further express our gratitude. Here are some ways to express your appreciation.

Ideas to Encourage Teachers

Kind Words:

  • Reach out to every teacher you know with kind gestures, such as phone calls, text messages, and social media posts—it’s straightforward and achievable.

  • Become the proactive parent who motivates others to deliver thoughtful notes and cards.

  • Encourage your community to extend their gratitude to include not only your child’s teacher but also their colleagues, including principals, secretaries, custodians, and other staff members who contribute tirelessly to the school environment.

Advocate for Educators:

  • Initiate meaningful conversations about the significance of teachers and the challenges they face, whether you're at the dinner table, with friends, or during a casual chat at work, expressing gratitude for their dedication.

  • Inspire any young people you know who are still in school to consider a career in education, highlighting its importance to our community.

  • Stay informed by keeping up with the latest developments in education both locally and nationally, and share your findings to spread awareness and knowledge among your peers.

Give Gifts:

  • Complement your words of appreciation with a thoughtful gift for educators, which can range from something small to more lavish—the key is to make them feel seen and appreciated, as gifts are universally welcomed and cherished by teachers.

  • Contribute to a group effort, such as the “Cheers for Teachers” event our Teach901 team recently coordinated, which saw hundreds of teachers enjoying an evening sponsored by the generosity of our community.

  • Invest in education; join our Give901 campaign as a monthly member, contributing to excellent teachers, innovative schools, and empowering mentors. We encourage each member to donate the equivalent of one hour's pay and one hour’s time per month; collectively, this can make a significant impact.

Encourage Teachers BEYOND TEACHER APPRECIATION MONTH

Although May is Teacher Appreciation Month, let's not forget that the opportunities to support and encourage our educators extend far beyond any single month. The power of encouragement can transform lives, and our teachers deserve our continual support and recognition for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice. Whether through kind words, advocacy, or thoughtful gifts, each gesture of appreciation helps fuel the passion and commitment of those who educate and inspire the next generation. Let's keep the momentum going by making encouragement a consistent part of our interactions, not just with teachers but within our entire community. Together, through initiatives like Teach901 and Give901, we can ensure that our educators feel valued and supported all year round, contributing to a brighter, more empowered future.
